JMW 02. Antique Gold — a jamawar three-piece from the Hilal atelier: an antique gold ground with roses and leafing vine worked in violet and green, the shading shifting between blue and green as the light moves across it. Natural variation in weave and colour is characteristic of the cloth.
Fabric
Pure jamawar — the most exacting cloth the atelier makes. The pattern is built thread by thread on the loom over several weeks, which is what gives the motifs their density and the ground its weight. Look closely and the detail keeps going: fine outlines inside each kalka, shading carried in three or four tones, ornament worked at a scale that reads as texture from across a room. Colour shifts as the cloth moves. Every length is singular — the density of the weave and the play of colour differ subtly from any other.
Care
Dry clean only, by a specialist experienced with fine woven silks. Never machine wash, soak, wring or bleach. Handle gently — avoid snagging on jewellery or rough edges. Do not spray perfume or deodorant directly onto the fabric. Iron only if necessary, on the lowest heat, on the reverse, through a protective cloth. Store flat or loosely rolled in a breathable muslin cloth, away from light, damp and heat. Refold occasionally to rest the threads. Made to be kept and handed down — treated gently, it holds its colour and its story for generations.
